Blackspace is a project in Durham that “provides free Pan-African centered social entrepreneurship and digital media resources for Carolina youth. Freelon has worked with a team of ‘Artivists’ to teach workshops in beat making, computer graphics, videography, radio, spoken word and puppetry – with a particular focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) curriculum.” It’s got a Kickstarter campaign to purchase musical equipment and software, to provide programming and to upgrade their office.
To celebrate the upcoming end of the Kickstarter campaign they’re holding a free block party on Friday, June 24th, 2016, at 5 p.m., at the corner of Market and Main Streets in Durham.
