Cary Town Band is reminiscent of the turn of the 20th century bands led by Sousa, Goldman, and others who popularized band concerts all over America. Presenting concerts recreating that bygone era, the band plays marches from many nations, circus music, waltzes, rags, polkas, famous overtures, and other “pops” classical music of the 1860’s to 1920’s with an occasional nod to more modern fare. They have several free concerts throughout the year. Visit the band’s website for information on all the concerts, as well as about how you can participate.

Remember the Circus?
Friday, March 02, 2018, 7:30 PM
Cary Arts Center – Theater
Cary, NC
The Greatest Show on Earth may have stopped its trains and folded its tents for the last time, but the world of the circus is still with us – and at the time it used to show up in our area each year. Remember the Grand Entrance parade with Thunder and Blazes, the seal act with Walking Frog, the aerialists flying above to The Crimson Pedal, the big cats in The Big Cage, the Grand Finale with Barnum & Bailey’s Favorite, and many more in the three rings in between. For kids of all ages, come one, come all and enjoy the grand spectacle as we answer the question, do you Remember the Circus?
Friday the 13th
Friday, April 13, 2018, 7:30 PM
Cary Arts Center – Theater
Cary, NC
Do you suffer from triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) or worse, yet, paraskevidekatriaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th)? If so, THIS is the concert for you! We celebrate the number 13 and specifically this particular April Friday the 13th – and play music that absolutely demonstrates that such phobias may be well founded – or not. Who can resist Wooster’s Black Cat Rag or Missaud’s The Salem Witches (13 witches in a coven). We’ll include Cujus Animam from the Stabat Mater by Rossini (who died on a Friday the 13th), Wagner’s Good Friday Music (from Parsifal), and so much more – some quite lucky, with Silly Prizes, too. Challenge your phobias and join us as we luckily, musically investigate Friday the 13th.

31st Annual Patriotic Celebration – The Great War
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018, 7:30 p.m.
Cary Arts Center – Theater
Cary, NC
(There will be a Preshow performance with the Applause! Cary Youth Theatre at 6:30 p.m.)
Known at the time as “The Great War” or “The War to End All Wars”, World War I ended on November 11, 1918, exactly 100 years ago this November. To commemorate this upcoming anniversary, the band’s 31st Annual pre-4th of July Patriotic Celebration musically recalls the many wonderful tunes written during that war with Ferde Grofé’s Over There Fantasie and others. There’s music honoring those who served such as Alford’s Vanished Army, Bagley’s America Victorious, and Sousa’s Golden Star. And of course as usual, we’ll salute our military service personnel past and present who have helped secure our freedom and liberty through all the years. It’s a celebration you don’t want to miss as we recall The Great War.
