Many farmers’ markets participate in the Double Bucks program. With this program, farmers’ markets match what a customer is spending with their SNAP/EBT card. So, if a customer swipes their EBT card for $25, they’ll get $50 of tokens to spend at the farmers’ market.
However, as the government has stopped paying SNAP benefits as of November 1, 2025, many people’s EBT cards have no funds on them.
Several farmers’ markets in the Triangle are continuing the program anyway. Carrboro Farmers’ Market made this announcement on Facebook, on behalf of some markets in Durham and Orange Counties, NC.
Whether or not you have funds on your EBT card, you can still utilize the Cash Match program.
Cash Match allows anyone who receives SNAP benefits, is an e-WIC client, or who lives in public housing to double their money at the market. Participants can use cash to get their dollars matched.
As an example: bring cash to the market info table for $20 and receive $40 in market tokens to spend at the market.
The details of how these markets are implementing Cash Match might vary, so make sure to check their social media or websites.
If you’re able to help, ask your local farmers’ market if you can donate to help fund this program!
This program has its limitations, but hopefully it offers at least a little bit of help during this time.
There may be more farmers’ markets in the Triangle implementing similar programs.
