Fiesta! is a free event that is part of Durham’s 150th Anniversary celebrations this year.
It takes place Sunday, September 15th, 2019, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at The Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 W. Morgan Street Durham.
FIESTA! Durham 150 Signature Event is presented by Nuevo South Media and sponsored by Durham Technical Community College and James Scott Farrin.
Here’s some of what is going on at the event:
- The theatrical premiere of FIESTA! Quinceañera, a REEL SOUTH/PBS documentary made in Durham by the award-winning creative team of Nuevo South, Rodrigo Dorfman and Peter Eversoll
- Latinx celebrity and activist La Pakis will be emceeing and presenting a surprise quinceañera dance.
- After the film, everyone is invited to sample delicious free food from local Latino restaurants like El Chapin, Azteca Grill, Cocoa Cinnamon, la Panaderia Pahuatlan and So Good Pupusas
- Learning about local organizations like the Latino Community Credit Union, El Centro Hispano, El Futuro, UNC TV, Museum of Durham History and Durham Technical Community College.
- Arts and crafts activities will be provided by the Scrap Exchange and artist Cornelio Campos
