BREATHING SPACES | Mary Ritter
Mary’s mother taught her to embroider and sew as a utilitarian skill she felt Mary would need in order to provide for her family. Later, she chose textiles and threads as her main media, and added dyes, printing, ceramics, beading, and paint to embellish the work.
“We all can recognize them. The vision within our sight enraptures us and removes us from the busy-ness of our lives. So we pause and take a breath. These textile artworks, utilizing texture, color and line, will tell a story, help you remember adventures from your youth, or recreate a scene stored in your memory banks. It might take you on a trip around our country or throughout the world. Textiles, color, texture, expression …. these elements have always been a part of my life.” – Mary
GLASS & BRASS | Jean Cheely
Jean creates patterns that reflect the balances and imbalances we find in life.
Her works show that nothing is static. She particularly likes working in glass, taking it to a molten state where she can flow the glass to make her design elements in keeping with her intent that life is constantly flowing.
She also works in metals to create jewelry. Personal adornment with jewelry pieces has been traced back to ancient times and still remains today. After studying under Maryanne Scherr, renowned for her work in metals, she was able to use her knowledge of techniques to design jewelry pieces in metals including sterling silver and brass.
