Duke University is celebrating Brain Awareness Week with a number of activities and events, some of which are free, to deepen the public’s understanding of the brain. Screening of the movie “Inside Out”
Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, 308 Research Drive, Durham
Gather for a free screening of Inside Out, including complimentary popcorn. Join Riley and her emotions for a fun-filled animated adventure through joy, sadness, fear, disgust and anger. Rated PG; 95 minutes. Families welcome. Free and open to the public.

Periodic Tables: Brain Awareness Week Edition
Motorco Music Hall, 723 Rigsbee Avenue, Durham
Join us for this Brain Awareness Week edition of Periodic Tables as we present an informal, yet spirited gathering on new ways to think about your brain. Q&A will follow short talks on vision and your brain, context and memory, brain enhancement ethics, and thinking about thinking. Talks by local experts: professors Greg Appelbaum, Tobias Egner, Nita Farahany and Marc Sommer. Presented in partnership by the Duke Initiative for Science & Society and the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. Free and open to the public; donations accepted. This off-campus venue offers a selection of food and beverage for purchase before, during and after the event.

Gallery Talks: Making Faces: At the Intersection of Art & Neuroscience

Join Duke students for short gallery talks at 5 and 7 p.m. to discuss their installation “Making Faces: At the Intersection of Art & Neuroscience.” This project is part of the work of “Art, Vision, and the Brain,” a Bass Connections team exploring the depiction of faces and how our brains make sense of our visual and social world.

DIBS Discovery Day

Help us cap off our eighth annual Brain Awareness Week at Duke with our first ever DIBS Discovery Day.
